Advanced inputs
UK eBay fees are not US eBay fees
Everything you know about eBay fees is probably American. Since October 2024, UK-based private sellers pay no final value fee and no regulatory operating fee when an item sells — zero commission, in most categories, full stop. eBay UK followed Vinted and Depop into the free-seller model, and the buyer side now funds the platform instead. The calculator above runs exactly that: enter a price and watch the fee column stay at £0.
What "free" covers — and what it doesn't
Free means free at the commission layer. Private UK sellers still pay for: optional listing upgrades (a subtitle is £2; a reserve price is 4% of the reserve, capped at £150), listings past the free allowance (300 per month, or 400 with an eBay Shop — then 35p each), and the international fee when you deliver to an overseas address. Motors, eBay Live, and business accounts sit on different schedules entirely.
The buyer side now carries the platform
UK buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee at checkout — banded by price, roughly £1.15 on a £15 item. It never touches your payout as a private seller, but it does raise the buyer's total, so it quietly shapes what the market will pay. When you price against Vinted (buyers pay 5% + 70p) or Depop (up to 5% + $1), remember every one of these platforms now charges the buyer something — eBay UK just wears it differently.
Business sellers: different book
If you sell as a business, none of the above applies — business sellers pay category-based final value fees plus a per-order charge, with VAT on fees, on a separate schedule. The private-seller free model is strictly for private accounts. This page and calculator model the private structure only; check eBay UK's business fee documentation before pricing a business account.
The 300-listing allowance, in practice
Three hundred free listings a month is generous for a closet seller and tight for a decluttering business — and renewals don't count against it. Automatic renewals and relists are free and don't consume the allowance; only brand-new listings (or manual relists you choose to re-create) do. If you're approaching the cap mid-month, the 35p per extra listing is small enough to ignore — the real discipline is not letting stale listings eat allowance slots that fresh inventory could use.
Selling internationally from the UK
The free model is domestic. Deliver to an address outside the UK and an international fee applies on that order — eBay UK's current international fee is charged on the total sale amount when the delivery address is abroad. For most private sellers this never comes up; for anyone shipping to Ireland or the continent regularly, price it in or restrict your postage regions.
Upgrades: the only fee most UK sellers ever see
With commission gone, eBay UK's remaining seller revenue is the à-la-carte menu: subtitles (£2), reserve prices (4% of the reserve, capped at £150), scheduled listings, extra photos packs and the like. All are optional and all are shown before you list — the calculator above keeps them off by default, so the £0 you see is the honest floor.
UK vs US: the two eBays
The US still runs the classic model — 13.6% in most categories plus $0.30/$0.40 per order — while UK private sellers pay nothing. Same logo, opposite fee books. If you're comparing against American guides or the US eBay calculator, don't mix the two: a UK private seller's net on a £30 sale is £30, while a US seller keeps about $25.52 on the same sale.
