Mercari Fee Calculator (2026 Rates)
One flat fee, no processing charge — see exactly what a Mercari sale pays you in 2026.
How Mercari fees work
Mercari's fees confuse sellers more than any other platform's — not because they're complicated, but because they changed direction twice in two years and the internet is full of both versions. This Mercari fee calculator uses the model in force since January 2025: one flat fee, nothing else. Here's what that means line by line.
One fee: a flat 10% on item price + shipping
Every completed sale costs you a flat 10% of the item price plus any shipping you charge the buyer. No listing fee, no monthly subscription, no per-order fixed amount. On a $50 item, the fee is $5.00. The shipping part is the detail sellers miss: price at $40 with $6 shipping and Mercari takes 10% of $46 — $4.60, not $4.00. If you offer "free shipping" and buy the label yourself, the 10% applies only to the item price, but the label cost lands on you instead. Run both setups in the calculator to compare net payouts.
No payment processing fee — really
Until early 2025, sellers also paid 2.9% + $0.50 per sale in payment processing. On January 6, 2025, Mercari folded that into the flat 10% — the processing line is gone from your payout statement, permanently. Any Mercari fees calculator or guide that still adds a processing charge on top of 10% is working from the pre-2025 model and will understate your payout by roughly 3%.
The 2024–2025 flip-flop, explained
Why the confusion? In March 2024, Mercari made waves by dropping seller fees to zero and charging buyers instead. It backfired — sales slowed, sellers left, and by January 2025 Mercari reversed course: the 10% seller fee returned (now including processing), and a smaller buyer-side fee stayed. So today there are three generations of guides in the wild: the old 10% + processing model, the brief zero-fee model, and the current flat 10%. Date matters more than the headline when you read any Mercari fee advice.
What buyers pay (and why you should care)
Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee of about 3.6% on top of your price. It never touches your payout — but it raises the buyer's total, which quietly affects conversion. A $50 listing costs the buyer about $51.80 before shipping. When you compare platforms, factor that in: Mercari's flat 10% looks cheaper than eBay's 13.6% + $0.40, but the buyer-side markup partially closes the gap on price-sensitive items.
Other costs worth knowing
- Instant Pay — $3 per transfer. Standard direct deposit is free; same-day cash-out costs $3 each time.
- Shipping labels. Optional but discounted; buying elsewhere or overpaying for weight is the most common real-world margin leak.
Worked example: a $25 sale
On a $25 item with $4 shipping charged to the buyer, the fee base is $29, so Mercari takes $2.90 and you keep $26.10 — an effective 10.4% of what the buyer paid. Offer free shipping instead and the fee drops to $2.50, but a $4 label now comes out of your pocket, leaving you $22.50. Same listing, two setups, a $3.60 difference in net payout. This is exactly the arithmetic the calculator above exists for — and the comparison strip shows which platform wins each variant before you commit to one.
Mercari fees vs other platforms
Mercari's flat 10% sits in the middle of the resale pack: more than Depop's ~3.8% all-in, less than Poshmark's 20% and usually less than eBay's 13.6% + $0.40 effective rate. On a $50 sale you keep $45.00 on Mercari versus $47.90 on Depop, $42.80 on eBay, and $40 on Poshmark. The full ranking for your exact item is in the all-platform comparator.

FAQ
How much does Mercari take from a $50 sale? ▾
Mercari charges a flat 10% selling fee — $5.00 on a $50 item, so you keep $45.00. There is no payment processing fee on top; it was folded into the 10% in January 2025.
Does Mercari charge a payment processing fee? ▾
No. Mercari removed the separate 2.9% + $0.50 seller processing fee on January 6, 2025. The flat 10% selling fee is the entire seller-side charge. Many older guides still add a processing line — they're outdated.
Does the 10% fee apply to shipping? ▾
Yes. Mercari's 10% is calculated on the item price plus any shipping you charge the buyer. A $40 item with $6 shipping is a $46 fee base, so the fee is $4.60, not $4.00.
What fees do buyers pay on Mercari? ▾
Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee of about 3.6% on top of your price. It doesn't come out of your payout, but it does raise the buyer's total — worth remembering when you price against other platforms.
